Of course, doing this requires that you have already collected enough information to truly understand their needs. At that point you can create a complete CRM strategy. In order to implement your strategy, you need to develop a tactical plan. This will involve both human elements, technology elements and a combination of both. BPM software is going to involve the latter two. Tools to aid your human resources as they interact with customers, and tools to automate portions of the process without the need for human involvement. CRM software will often have basic process management components. For instance, the sales tools will often provide the ability to create custom sales processes which can differ from opportunity to opportunity. Or, there may be tools to plan and execute the interaction with leads to accommodate all possible outcomes, and your required steps along a decision tree. Generally, if you want something more powerful, you will need to purchase a dedicated piece of software to handle business alerting and workflow management. These kinds of tools can...
Over the past ten years, it's become increasing more cost effective for middle-market companies to implement this kind of software. They still require a resource investment since they can be complex to use; including advanced database connectivity, query writing and coding to really make things happen. I spend quite a bit of my time working with tools like this and they have really expanded my ability to set a smaller company apart from their competitors. But as with anything, serious planning needs to be a first priority and it needs to be done with a solid understand of your customers' needs.
