No Reason to Use CRM Software

by Anonymous

I worked for a company that got us all excited about this new software that was going to make all of us reps a lot of money. We'd have information at our fingertips and be able to keep track of our customer contacts.

Well, the day came and we went to training for 2 days. What we found out was that it was going to take a lot of extra time to get all of this information our manager wanted into the system. I mean, it was bad enough that we were taking a chunk out of our month with our forecast meetings. But this was something they expected every day.

I was all up for that if they wanted it. But others I talked to were not as enthusiastic. For example, a couple of the older guys didn't want to share their contacts because they thought this is what set them apart. There were a few others that were too busy doing what made them successful (and it didn't involve a computer) to keep the system up to date.

The bottom line is that only a very few were using the system regularly so we had to still have our monthly meetings and weekly phone calls to review the prospects we were working on. So, that just reinforced that the system didn't work.

There were 50 sales reps so I know they spent some serious cash to get this thing going. I've always been into computers, but this was a joke. It was really ugly.

This was a few jobs ago for me and since then I've come to work for a company that has made our lives easier with technology. That's another story for another website. But I can tell you that there are successes.

This is very common
by: Mike Boysen

I can't tell how often I've been approached by companies that just wanted to purchase software from me. This is the result!

Obviousy, there was no comprehensive corporate strategy for interfacing with customers. Nor was the change from a "do whatever you want, just sell" (sales rep focused) to a customer-centric focus with defineable benefits not only to the company, but to the people helping the company succeed.

Very common scenario. Thanks for contributing!
